The Concept of Human Effort Engineering: HR Dimension

http://knol.google.com/k/narayana-rao-kvss/the-concept-of-human-effort-engineering/2utb2lsm2k7a/1156#

A new definition of industrial engineering emerged in the literature. “Industrial Engineering is Human Effort Engineering. It is an engineering discipline that deals with the design of human effort in all occupations: agricultural, manufacturing and service. The objectives of Industrial Engineering are optimization of productivity of work-systems and occupational comfort, health, safety and income of persons involved.” According to this definition the two focus areas of industrial engineering are human effort engineering and systems efficiency/productivity engineering.

The activities of human resource management can be categorized under the five major domains: Organizational design, Staffing, Performance management and appraisal, Employee and organizational development, and reward systems, benefits, and compliance. Traditionally Industrial engineering and human resource management had interconnected relationships in areas like manpower planning and job design. The new definition increases the scope of interaction between IE department and HRM department.

Industrial Engineering

Definition, Explantion, History, and Programs

http://knol.google.com/k/narayana-rao-kvss/industrial-engineering/2utb2lsm2k7a/1151#

"Industrial Engineering is Human Effort Engineering and System Efficiency Engineeering."

Industrial engineering can be better explained with the statement that the two focus areas of industrial engineering are human effort engineering and system efficiency engineering.

The explanation of industrial engineering as human effort engineering and system efficiency engineering brings out more clearly the scope of the IIE definition that industrial engineering is concerned with the design, improvement, and installation of integrated systems. The word engineering is associated with design and production, fabrication or construction according to designs. As explained above, system design in entirety cannot be the sole preserve of industrial engineers. The functional design production systems in various branches of engineering can be done by engineers of that branch only. Similarly functional design of various management systems in a business organization can be done by managers of that function only. Industrial engineers have a role to play in systems design and it is of designing efficiency into the functional systems designed by others.

Buyer’s needs, characteristics and decision making process interact with the stimuli created by the environment and marketers and buying decisions are made by the buyers.

Hence marketers have to understand what happens in the buyer’s conscious ness between the arrival of outside stimuli and the buyer’s purchase decision.

Jimmy Wales on Knol - February 2009

http://knol.google.com/k/narayana-rao-kvss/jimmy-wales-on-knol-february-2009/2utb2lsm2k7a/1126#

How seriously do you take Knol as a rival?

Jimmy Wales: I don't think Knol is a competitor at all. Knol is nothing like Wikipedia and doesn't have the potential to become anything like Wikipedia.

The very design of the site is really more of a blogging platform. They say very explicitly that they want people to post their own opinions and have more of a quirky commentary style. They have no editorial structure the way that we do to push for quality.

In an interview with DW-WORLD

I am sure many active knollers disagree with Jimmy Wales.

Many professors and faculty members are joining knol and I do not think Jimmy Wales or any other person has any reason to declare them as persons not competent to develop articles in their area of specialisation.

Fundamentals of Industrial Engineering

http://knol.google.com/k/narayana-rao-kvss/-/2utb2lsm2k7a/1116#

Review of the Chapter 1.5 Fundamentals of Industrial Engineering in Maynard's Handbook of Industrial Enginering, 5th Edition.

Industrial engineering has to focus on two areas as its specialty – Human effort engineering and System efficiency engineering. By inserting the term efficiency and writing the first area as OPERATIONS EFFICIENY ANALYSIS AND DESIGN will be make it more clear to the practitioners as well as users the role of industrial engineers. Work measurement is an exclusive area of industrial engineering and we need to recognize that in methods engineering once again functional engineering of the method belongs to production engineers and only human effort and efficiency engineering are the areas of industrial engineering. Ergonomics is the science used by industrial engineering in human effort engineering.

Origin of the Earth's Magnetic Field

http://knol.google.com/k/j-marvin-herndon/origin-of-the-earths-magnetic-field/1x8elf7fue7ro/7

Since 1939, the geomagnetic field has been thought to arise from a dynamo mechanism, though not in Earth's fluid core as long believed, but in the fission-product sub-shell of the georeactor, a naturally occurring nuclear fission reactor thought to exist at the center of the Earth. This is the reason.
